MODS TAKE TWICKENHAM

MODS TAKE TWICKENHAM

Beth Griffiths11 Jul - 21:48

Nottingham Moderns RFC etched their name in club history with a dream come true – playing at the legendary Twickenham Stadium!

Selected as the only Midlands team out of 200 entries for the Twickenham Takeover Day, the Moderns joined seven other clubs in celebrating England Rugby's "Play Together, Stay Together" campaign. This initiative recognises clubs that are dedicated to player retention, particularly supporting the smooth transition from junior to senior rugby.

On April 21st, a mixed team of colts, seniors, and veterans took to the iconic stadium to celebrate the club's support of homegrown talent. Winning all three of their games, the team was cheered on by a great turn out of supporters and fellow players.

A key factor in Nottingham Moderns' selection for this event is their impressive pathway structure. The club's "Doug Scott Memorial Fund" plays a pivotal role, offering financial assistance to young players (aged 17-21) with match fees, subscriptions, and kit costs. The fund goes beyond financial aid, connecting players with the club's network, enabling them to pursue coaching, refereeing, and first-aid qualifications.

Nottingham Moderns' triumph at Twickenham Takeover Day is a testament to their commitment to fostering a thriving rugby community.
